What is therapy?
Therapy is an opportunity for reflection and growth in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Expressing yourself openly to a professional who is trained to hold space for you, your thoughts, and feelings can lead to transformative personal growth and healing.
Therapy can help you tap into your innermost thoughts and feelings and how these impact your self-image, attitudes, and your relationships with others. Oftentimes, we will discover patterns of behavior that seem automatic, and talk therapy can help you to identify and alter these thought and behavior loops that you’ve found yourself stuck in. That is when true emotional healing can occur.
How do I know if/when I should start therapy?
If you are wondering if you should go to therapy, the answer is most likely yes. Everyone can benefit from therapy at some point in their lives, and if you are considering it now, then chances are you are at a point in your life when you could use some support. Some people come to therapy because they are experiencing a specific concern like relationship issues, low mood, or are feeling stressed, lonely, or disconnected. Others are going through a transition in their lives or have recently lost a loved one. Some people feel stuck where they are and are looking for a different perspective and tools to change how they are currently operating. And still other people choose to come to therapy to gain more insight into themselves and their behaviors. All are valid reasons for starting therapy.
Do you take insurance?
I am out-of-network. If you have out-of-network benefits with your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement. If my fee is outside of your financial means, I also offer a sliding scale on a case by case basis.
How long are sessions?
Each session is approximately 50-55 minutes.
How long should I commit to being in therapy, at least in the beginning?
The length of time spent in therapy really depends on what your goals are. In general, I recommend that you commit to meeting weekly for a minimum of 6 months. Within this timeframe, most clients can experience major shifts. To receive the most benefit, I usually recommend a year.
What does therapy with you look like?
I am a holistic therapist, and my approach incorporates both the mind and the body. Because therapy is most effective when you feel safe, my goal is to create an accepting, non-judgmental, and inclusive space for you to bring your whole self. No topic is off-limits, and I am genuinely interested in getting to know YOU. My approach is trauma-informed with an emphasis on your strengths and personal growth.
In order to help you create lasting positive change in your life, I will use a tailored approach that explores underlying patterns that may be causing distress. The types of therapy that I draw from the most include psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique (also known as EFT or tapping), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, more commonly known as CBT.
Are you going to ask me about my childhood?
Yes, and we will also talk about what’s happening in your life now. We learn about relationships when we are children, and oftentimes those first experiences we have give us a blueprint for our current relationships, how we view the world, and how we view ourselves. Sometimes those blueprints and old patterns no longer work in your current relationships, so in therapy we can examine how they have impacted you and work towards building new patterns that serve you better now.
